“Bless You”

The common expression bless you or god bless you is used in various situations. It wishes a person blessing after different situations, epically after a sneeze. This phrase has been used in the holy bible used in the Hebrew bible by Jews and Christians. This word was originated by the Romans and dated long back, at least AD 77. Gregory 1 became pope in 590 AD but was affected by the Bubonic Plague.  To end the disease, he ordered unending prayers and parades of chanters through the streets. At the time, people thought sneezing was a sign of the plague. Sneezing made them believed there soul can be thrown out of there body, otherwise they thought they were invaded by the Devil or Evil spirits. Now, we figured out that we sneeze because the heart stops beating for a moment.

History of Football

Football (as well as rugby and soccer) are believed to have descended from the ancient Greek game of harpaston.  Harpaston is mentioned frequently in classical literature, where it is often referred to as a “very rough and brutal game“.  The rules of this ancient sport were quite simple:  Points were awarded when a player would cross a goal line by kicking the ball, running with it across the goal line, or throwing it across the line to another player. The other team’s objective was simply to stop them by any means possible.  There was no specific field length, no side line boundaries, no specified number of players per team, only a glaring lack of rules. The birth date of football was in November 6, 1869 by a team of rugby players of Princeton University. After a decade of increasing brutality, the game was banned by many colleges. This later on brought on paddings and helmets so the players wouldn’t get injured or hurt in a game. Now football is a big sport in the U.S and all over the world, now with teams in San Diego, San Francisco, St. Louis, Etc. All the games In the NFL now leads up to the Super Bowl.

Presidents Day

President’s day I an American holiday that is celebrated in February 16 (the third Monday in February). It was established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington. Traditional celebrated on Washington’s actual birthday (February 22) the holiday was known as Presidents day after it was moved as part of 1971 uniform day holiday act. This attempted to create more three day weekends for the Nations workers. Some people celebrate Presidents day by having picnics, party, feast, or maybe have a piece of pie (which was Washington’s favorite desert).

History of  Basketball

Basketball first started in 1891 Springfield, Massachusetts, created by Dr. James Naismith. He was using a technique to condition young players during the winter, which consisted of a peach baskets and a soccer style ball. He then divided the class of 18 into 2 teams of 9 players. Their objective was to throw the basketball into the j fruit basket nailed to the lower railing of the gym balcony. Once the player scored, the janitor had to take a ladder to retrieve from the basket. Then ounce they scored again, the bottom of the fruit basket was removed. The first public game was played in Springfield Massachusetts, on March 11, 1892.

The first 12 rules for Basketball where:
1.      The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands.
2.      The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands.
3.      A player cannot run with the ball, the player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man who catches the ball when running at good speed.
4.      The ball must be in any way the person of an opponent shall be allowed. The first infringement of this rule by any person shall count as a foul, the second shall disqualify him until the next goal is made, or if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole of the game, no substitute.
5.      A foul is striking the ball with the fist, violation of rules 3 and 4, and such as described in rule 5.
6.      If either side makes three consecutive fouls it shall count a goal for opponents.
7.      A goal shall be made when the ball is thrown or batted from grounds into the basket and stays there if the ball rests on the edge and the opponent moves the basket it shall count as a goal.
8.      When the ball goes out of bounds it shall be thrown into the field and played by the person first touching it. In case of a dispute, the umpire shall throw it straight into the field. The "thrower-in" is allowed five seconds. If he holds it longer it shall go to the opponent. If any side persists in delaying the game, the umpire shall call a foul on them.
9.      The umpire shall be the judge of the men and shall note the fouls, and notify the referee when three consecutive fouls have been made.
10.  The referee shall be the judge of the ball and shall decide when the ball is in play, in-bounds, and to which side it belongs, and shall keep the time. He shall decide when a goal has been made, and keep account of the goals with any other duties that are usually performed by a referee.
11.  The time shall be fifteen-minute halves, with five minutes rest between.
12.  The side making the most goals in that time shall be declared the winner. In the case of a draw, the game may, by agreement of the captains, be continued until another goal is made.

Basketball today is now different than the past. Now, Basketball uses rings and a net to score. Instead of a soccer ball, they manufactured and produced basketballs in 1894 for better ball dribbling and handling. Before they used wood as back boards, now we use a material called Plexiglas. Before coaching was allowed during half time, now the coach can be involved to any part of the game. While looking back at eh history of Basketball, we can tell that it has changed from 1891 till now.
