Allopathic Physician
(M.D.)
Duties and responsibilities: Physicians examine patients, obtain medical history,
order, perform and interpret diagnostic test. For example, an allopathic
physician will prescribe antibiotic to treat a bacterial disease. They prescribe
and administer treatment for people suffering from injury or disease. They counsel
patients about illness, injuries, health conditions, and preventive healthcare.
They can also conduct medical research, teach and run medical centers.
Allopathic physicians rely on patented pharmaceutical drugs, radiation and
surgery to treat their patients. This type of doctor will only use allopath’s and
will tend to avoid the use of non-allopathic or alternative medicine.
Salary: $101,000
Education:
It takes four years to obtain a degree in allopathic medicine. In a typical
allopathic medical school, the first two years are spent on basic science -
gross anatomy, neuroscience, histology, biochemistry, etc. In the third and
fourth years, students complete clinical rotations in a hospital or family
practice setting to get supervised hands-on work with patients. After
graduation from medical school, residency begins and varies from 3-7 years
depending on the specialty field chosen.
Reflection: I would not like to be a allopathic Physician because I would be uncomfortable looking at a broken leg or arm
