Duties and Responsibilities: People interested in working on medicine, treating disorders of the heart, may consider a career in cardiology. Cardiologists are physicians who specialize in heart conditions and other cardiopulmonary problems. Becoming a cardiologist generally entails several years of training beyond undergraduate school, as well as licensure and board certification

Education: First, an aspiring cardiologist must have a bachelor's degree in order to get into medical school. The most logical pre-med bachelor degrees include courses in mathematics, chemistry, psychology or engineering. Then one must gain a passing score on the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test).The four years in medical school covers standard medical judgment, medical terminology and clinical standard procedures. Potential cardiologists who complete the ten years of educational preparation must then pass an exam administered by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
